CITY HALL 2008 Mayors Mexican Independance Dinner Celebration

Viva Mexico, Viva Mexico,  the Mayor of Tijuana shouted from the City Hall balcony to an excited crowd of over 40,000 people celebrating Mexican Independence Day as the most spectacular fireworks presentation I have ever seen began. For four hours preceding that I was a guest of the Mayors inside City Hall for a special dinner with incredible food and entertainment which rivaled American Idol. My friend Willie Yu had invited me on the night before. He was totally in charge of the whole event, greeting all the guest and seeing they were all seated. Attending besides the Mayor was San Diego's Naval Command Admiral and some of his staff, The San Diego Police Chief and a couple of his staff, the Chinese Consultant, and the who's who of the Tijuana business and political landscape. Thanks to Willy, I got to know the Mayor, The Admiral, the Police Chief, and others such as the director of the cultural Center who we shared a table with. The security was extremely high. Shortly before 10pm we were all escorted from inside City Hall to a special gated area just beneath the stage outside just below the Mayor's balcony for the militaries drum and bugle corp. presentation just before the Mayor's address and then the fireworks. I normally know my way around the city, but after leaving City Hall, I made a wrong turn on my way back to the border crossing and spent well over an hour maneuvering my way past numerous security road blocks, sandwiched in between cars and pickups of young people waiving Mexican Flags and shouting Viva Mexico. What incredable Patritism! Needless to say, thanks to my friend Willie, a very remember able night
